Finding inspiration in the familiar
One of the most challenging aspects for many photographers is to find inspiration. And this year has been even more challenging. We can’t travel. We can’t gather. We can’t do a lot of things that fuel our photographic inspiration.
There’s a reason your social media feeds are usually flooded with gorgeous travel photos…First, who doesn’t love to see those photos? Earth is truly a spectacular place to be. And second, travel has a novelty effect that makes us feel inspired to capture the moment. It’s different, unique, breathtaking. The beauty is all right there in front of you. Granted, the image still needs the right lighting and composition, but the motivation to pull out your camera and snap the shot, it happens almost automatically.
But what do we do when day after day novelty seems to push farther and farther away from us? What do we do when we’re stuck in a cycle of monotonous days that run right into one another?
Keep shooting.
Keep creating.
When we go on a walk in our own neighborhood. When we sit in the living room with our family. When we look up at the trees. Just keep shooting and soon there will be inspiration everywhere.
Here are some shots from the last few months. These are the times I convinced myself to pull out my camera despite thinking there wasn’t anything new or exciting to capture. That’s not the point of photography. And I was always glad I did.
