Under the sea or up in space? 👩‍🚀
The similarities between the deep sea and outer space have always fascinated me.
Yet given the chance, I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to fly to outer space or submerge into the deepest depths of the ocean.
I’m not sure if it’s the mode of transportation I would be nervous about or the fact that I’m in such a vulnerable environment should anything go wrong. It’s not like I haven’t put myself in vulnerable positions here on earth, with ample oxygen around me. But the stress of those situations was lower.
Whether it was climbing, swimming, or going on a boat or an airplane…these were and are all things I have felt comfortable enough with. I had enough experience with them to convince myself the “risk” was worth the reward.
That must be the key difference between me and a marine biologist or an astronaut. The belief that the pursuit is worthy of any danger. That and maybe a few years of education, physical training, and overall grit and intelligence levels. Besides that…tooootttallly the same…haha.
In any case, I’m glad those brave people exist. I’m glad we have ways of recording these magnificent worlds within worlds and solar systems. I’m glad that our thirst for knowledge and understanding as a human race, overwhelms us and propels us to make what was once unimaginable discoveries. I can’t wait to see what else we find.
