A Las Vegas Story

There are two sides to every story. This story is about Las Vegas, Nevada. If you're a gambler Las Vegas is a place to get rich. If you're a drinker, it's a place to carry your drink with you, literally, at all times. If you're a dancer, it’s a place to get your groove, grind and boogie on. And if you're all of the above, then it is truly your happy place. But there's a side to Vegas that not everyone knows about. The side that takes place away from the strip. Away from the noise. The polar opposite, in fact. Are you a climber? A hiker? A lover of nature? There's a place for you there too. It's called Red Rocks. As you’ll see in the slideshow below, the rocks that make up these mountains are in fact, red. This sandstone rock is reminiscent of the granite rocks in Joshua Tree, but are therefore way less sharp, and of course, red. We didn’t sport climb this time, but we walked around and got some cool shots. I even made a new friend! He’s really little, a bit furry, and has a super cute tail. I asked him if he wanted to come back with us later to go swimming at our hotel (which is casino and smoke free by the way-we did Vegas differently and, really, that’s the only way I ever want to do it). But, unfortunately, he is not a huge fan of swimming. So we said goodbye and these photographs will be my only memories of our time together. Anyway...where was I….

Ah yes, two sides to every story! I used to say that I had a love/hate relationship with my college life. It was fun, but it was also exhausting and the party scene got old quick. Now I realize that almost every experience I have, has two sides to it. The whole yin and yang thing? Totally applicable to almost all cases. For example, you fall in love with running, but running every day is hard on your knees and your body. This frustration forces you to stay off your feet. But it also gives you the opportunity to sit down and read a good book. The book leaves you feeling unaccomplished. Why haven’t you ever written a book? You get out your laptop and start working on a novel. Okay, you'll settle for a short story. The short story is a romantic comedy about two people that meet at a party. The story goes viral on Tumblr and people start requesting to read more! They frantically ask, what happens to the couple??? They fall madly in love and get married and have lots of babies, duh. You’re still single. Your friend tells you how she’s met the love of her life. But she also tells you that, some days, she wants to strangle him. You see? Yin and yang. The interconnected dualities of life. There is no always good. No always fun. And there is no always bad. No always pain. And whether that’s beautiful or cliche, whether that’s obvious or a new insight, whether that's just or unfair...It's all of those things. All at once.
