Change your place, change your luck

In Hebrew there’s a saying: “meshane makom, meshane mazal.” It means “change your place, change your luck.” In other words, changing your place in the world can lead to a positive shift in your luck.

Of course, it isn’t always the case that changing your location changes your luck for the better. I moved to Denver in 2019. Big change. New state. New city. New job. New everything! 6 months later a global pandemic tore through our lives and moved me and many other millennials back into their parent’s home.

But that’s the thing. I made that move back. And then I made another move. And boy how things have changed. For the better.

Moving to a new place is exciting in and of itself. New neighborhood. New home. New housemate. It’s especially exciting if your housemate is willing to indulge you in being your model. Ehem. See below.

But what I didn’t expect was for this move to bring about the best change I could have asked for. It’s like making the change itself kick-started the universe into high gear. It starts to move some pieces around. Sometimes they move in the right direction. Maybe even the one you’ve wanted for quite some time now.

I walk around this city and pay attention to the details. Nothing looks too different. And yet, it changes all the time.

So here’s to embracing change. To looking for it. Paying attention. Not giving up. Seeking out change as you would an uptick in your luck.

I hope you find the pieces you’ve been looking for.
